Colonial
Maneuvers is a short fan-film inspired by the iconic Alien
franchise. Our non-commercial project seeks to test
the boundaries of low-to-no-budget filmmaking, showcasing
virtual production techniques, including rear projection,
projection mapping, artificial intelligence (limited to
voice synthesis or workflow improvements) and extensive
use of CGI. By focusing solely on open-source tools like Blender
and Natron, we aim to test
innovative and cost-effective workflows for indie
filmmaking.
This
passion project not only explores new techniques in film
production, but also pays heartfelt tribute to the beloved
Alien franchise. With a profound respect for its
impact on both cinema and video games, we’re crafting a
distinctive experience that combines genuine fan
appreciation with a desire to push the creative boundaries
for "indie" innovation. The film will be released freely
online along with a compilation of lessons learned
throughout production.
Currently in early development, Colonial Maneuvers is
actively seeking talented volunteers to join its creative
team. If you're an aspiring actor or VFX artist proficient
in Blender, this is an opportunity to contribute to a
compelling fan project. Connect
with us to learn more about how you can get involved and
to stay updated on our production journey.
This fan-film is intended solely
for non-commercial and educational purposes aimed at
exploring new tools and techniques for independent
filmmaking. The fan-film will not be monetized, used to
generate revenue or commercially exhibited. Alien and
